German has nothing in common with Finnish. It's very oddly to hear such opinion.

This languages are not similar to each other.
"relatives" of Finnish is Estonian, Karelian, Komi, Khanty, Mansi, Mordovian or even Hungarian
Is languages of Ugro-finnish group of Altai family. 
But German from German group of Indoeuropean family - it is closer to Russian, than Finnish.

finnlandian-estonian and hungarian is brothers ( family ) languages... but germanic group is absolutely other family construction... so previous people sayd RIGHT.... " Suomilainen puhua laulavastii --- aber Mal groesse verschiedenheit  haben zwischen Finnlandian und Deutsch "
