Well 'päivä' means 'day', but 'päivää' means 'afternoon'. You know 'hyvää päivää' means 'good afternoon' but of course you can say it 'päivää' = ''afternoon'. You got it? :)

hei.. when do we use the -i or -t marker in making words plural?? does -i always have to follow vowels?? are there other suffixes or letter markers that make words plural aside from -i and -t??^^
