汉语拼音Chinese Pinyin

汉语拼音,于1955年—1957年制定。主要用于汉字读音的标注,作为汉字的一种音标。1958年2月11日全国人民代表大会批准公布。1982年,成为国际标准ISO 7098(中文罗马字母拼写法)。

Chinese Pinyin was esteblished during the period from 1955 to 1957. The solution was legally approved and issued by National People’s Congress on February 11th 1958, and became international standard (ISO7098) of “Latinized Spelling Method of Chinese” in 1982. This solution is applied as phonetic symbols to label Chinese characters pronunciation.

读音 Pronunciation

汉语拼音分声母和韵母。
韵母是ɑ、o、e、i、u、ü。
声母有b、p、m、f、d、t、n、l、ɡ、k、h、j、q、x、z、c、s、r、zh、ch、sh。
每个汉字由韵母和声母组合构成一个音节。

Chinese Pinyin consists of initial consonants (b, p, m, f, d, t, n, l, ɡ, k, h, j, q, x, z, c, s, r, zh, ch, sh) and finals or compound vowels (ɑ,o, e, i, u, ). Each Chinese character is one syllable constructed by a compound vowel and one initial consonant.

汉语中一共有五种声调 5 tones in Chinese

一声(阴平) Smooth tone, marked “ˉ”on the top of the vowel or “1”at the end of the syllable
二声(阳平) Rising tone, marked “ˊ”on the top of the vowel or “2”at the end of the syllable
三声(上声) Upper tone, marked “ˇ”on the top of the vowel or “3”at the end of the syllable
四声(去声) Falling tone, marked “ˋ”on the top of the vowel or “4”at the end of the syllable
轻声 Light tone, not marked or with “5” at the end of the syllable.

E.g.: wǒ or wo3.

作用 Function

汉语拼音对普及识字起了很大的作用。 同过去其它的汉语拉丁化的规则相比,它的规律比较简单,发音更规范于普通话的发音。它系统地体现了汉语发音的规则。随着计算机的普及,汉语拼音也是一种非 常常用的中文输入法。由于汉语拼音是一种只书写读音的体系,无法取代汉字。完全用汉语拼音写出来的文章很难懂,因此,它不是一种正式的书写方式,而只是一 种阅读的帮助。

Chinese Pinyin plays an extremely important role in teaching new characters and words. It is also a very important reading aid. Compared with former rules and regulations, it is much more simple and convenient now. The pronunciation is much closer to that of Putonghua. With the popularization of computers, Pinyin also has become a very popular Chinese input method. Because Chinese Pinyin is only a system to label the pronunciation of the Chinese character(s), so it cannot replace Chinese characters for the time being. Articles written completely in Pinyin are difficult to comprehend. Therefore, it is not an official writing style, but a reading aid. Edit

汉语拼音化 Chinese Latinization

由于汉字复杂,学习时间长,并且不如英文输入计算机方便,中国文改积极分子为了发展出拉丁化的汉语拼音文字,正在汉语拼音方案的基础上研究分词连写 和分化定型同音词等问题。中国语文现代化学会为在中国实现一语双文做了很多工作。自从80年代初废除第二批简化字以来,中国政府采用了以维持现状,追求语 言文字使用的连续性和稳定性为主的语言文字政策,目前已经放弃了“汉字拉丁化”的计划。

Because of the complication and time-cost of learning Chinese characters as well as the less convenience compared with English input into computers, Chinese characters reform enthusiasts are making research and development on issues of imaginative writing and identical phonetic characters identification and isolation. China Chinese Modernization Society has made much devotion to the realization of one language with two writing styles. Ever since 1980’s when the second lot of simplified characters was abated, Chinese government has applied such a language and character policy to maintain the consistency and stability of the characters. The Chinese Character Latinization project has been suspended. Edit

The obvious advantage of pinyin over zhuyin is that you don't need to learn a whole set of new characters, although you must learn some pronunciation rules because most consonants have different sounds than mostly western languages traditional ones. Like "q" having a sound similar to "ch" in "charge". Similar, but still quite different.
The advantage of zhuyin is you learn immediately how to pronounce the symbols, avoiding some misunderstandings (as pronouncing "taijiquan" as "taijikuan").

I think that's the same for japanese kana. It's very common to portuguese speakers (at least to brazilians) to say "nan" as "nãn" (with nasal sound). If you write in kana, it's evident it is "na-n".
