Dannie 's fantastic world o(∩_∩)o...

ATTENTION! let me first introduce this to you all who are reading my article here. all these expressions i put here ,are those i learned when i watched the famous American TV shows ,like Friends ,and some others. and i wrote down each one that i do not really sure about the meanings ,so i ask my US friends all about them.and here is their reply. which i think is a great help for myself, hopefully , it can also be the same to you all. i do learn a lot of American slangs and daily expressions watching it and learning it. hope it can give you some interesting ideas while learning English. btw,Friends is great! you guys gonna watch it!~again and agian!!! OK, today’s questions.

1 what does this mean-'beating a dead horse' To beat a dead horse is to continue to discuss and argue about something, even when the matter has been decided and there is no chance of change. We could hit a dead horse, but it would not make him run.

2it's an expression

this is what Ross said when there was an embarrassment coming over..he said he taped it, and everyone was so hard to believe it .so Ross said -it's an expression is it something like
i just said that for no purpose? no special meanings? or a way to help oneself get out of certain embrassing situation? – Ross was saying that his statement that he had taped it was not really true. Here is how we use the expression. You could say that your teacher is going to kill you if you do not get your paper done on time. He would not really kill you. It is just an expression. I am guessing that Ross really did tape it, but now he is embarrassed to say so.

3you were never funnier, you were a hoot. this when Monica told Chandler that he is really funny..but i need to understand the word"hoot "more, - Yes, when we say a person is a hoot, it means that we think that he or she is very funny. I think that maybe it comes from the sound of laughing we might make when they are being funny. We say that an owl hoots.

4Joey can back me up means that Joey can be the one to help Ross out? – Ross was saying that Joey could confirm or verify what Ross had said or done. For example, if I mailed a letter but it never arrived, my friend could back me up when I said that I mailed it, since he went to the Post Office with me.

It is sunny and cool here. Today, after church, I will take a Chinese mother and daughter to our Zoo. I am sure that we will have a nice day.
