There are 3 different groups of verbs in French. More of of the verbs (about 90%) of the verbs are in the 1st groupe, which is luckily the easiest to use.
Edit1ST GROUP :
All the verbs of this group finish with "er".
- Manger (To eat)
- Travailler (To work)
- Nager (To swim)
Edit"CHANTER" (TO SING)
Je chante
Tu chantes
Il/Elle chante
On chante (Neutral)
Nous chantons
Vous chantez
Ils/Elles chantent
As you can see, you just have to
remove the "er" and to replace it with e, es, e, e, ons, ez, ent.Edit2ND GROUP :
All the verbs of this group finish with "ir".
- Finir (To finish, to end)
- Agir (To act)
Edit"CHOISIR" (TO CHOOSE)
Je choisis
Tu choisis
Il/Elle choisit
On choisit
Nous choisissons
Vous choisissez
Ils/Elles choisissent
You have to
remove the "ir" and to replace it with is, is, it, it, issons, issez, issent.
Edit3RD GROUP :
It's the most complicated one, and most of native french people don't even really know which verbs are inside this group.
The verbs can finish with "oire", "oudre", "tre"... and even "ir", that can be confusing with verbs of the 2nd group !
I can tell you here the conjugations of all verbs from the 3rd group, I will just give you some examples and tell you the conjugation of a very usefull verb : aller (to go).
- Dormir : To sleep
- Mettre : To put
- Battre : To fight
- Vouloir : To want
- Joindre : To join
- ...
Edit"ALLER" (TO GO)
Je vais
Tu vas
Il/Elle va
On va
Nous allons
Vous allez
Ils vont
