There are some people that knowing just ONE THOUSAND words work speaking English all day, and there are other people that knowing TWENTY THOUSAND words can't speak English at all. It is because there are two kinds of words in every language: the ones used on the daily speaking and the ones that aren't, such as the technical language or the antique words. The key is not learning lots and lots of words, BUT learning the strategic ones belonging to the generic vocabulary. Referring to the native language, a three-years old little boy can make conversation with someone who knows lots of words, which proves this statement true. The problem is that the English-teaching programs don't teach the vocabulary on a prioritized, and organized fashion, but at random. The other problem is that the programs just teach the meaning of the words, but not how to use them, so they can't train their students on a real English speaking skill which must go from the very beginning of the study. I know the solution for every difficulty to get able to really speak English in a very short time (two months or shorter). More detail: princeton_cusco@hotmail.com
