Present tense regular verbs

Edit

Please, take some time to see this contribution, it's a very important reading in portuguese learning, you can print and practice during the week, you'll see that it's easy after some time of practice, because to be true, everything is.

Regular verbs have a invariable radical (falar - to speak) and are easy to memorize. Each conjugation follows a different, but regular pattern. To have the stem you must only remove the -ar, -er, -ir part of the verb and add the proper ending.

Edit

-ar present tense regular verbs

All regular verbs ending in -ar are conjugated the same way. The cojugation is dependant on the subject that the verb is in reference to. Here is an example conjugation for the verb falar:

I speak → Eu fal o
You (singular, inf) speak → Tu fal as
He speaks (also ela, você) → Ele fal a
We speak → Nós fal amos
You (plural) speak → Vós fal ais
They speak (also elas, vocês) → Eles fal am

Ten regular verbs ending in -ar:
Abraçar (to hug), cantar (to sing), beijar (to kiss), amar (to love), explicar (to explain), andar (to walk), tocar (to play/to touch), limpar (to clean), escutar (to listen), olhar (to look).

Edit

-er present tense regular verbs

I eat → Eu com o
You (singular, inf) eat Tu com es
He eats (also ela, você) → Ele com e
We eat → Nós com emos
You (plural) → eat Vós com eis
They eat (also elas, vocês) → Eles com em

Ten regular verbs ending in -er: Escrever (to write), entender (to understand), vender (to sell), correr (to run), pertencer (to belong), sofrer (to suffer), viver (to live), morrer (to die), comer (to eat), beber (to drink).

Edit

-ir present tense regular verbs

Regular tense verbs ending in -ir are handled very similarly to -er verbs. The only difference is the conjugation for nós and vós. Here is an example conjugation for the verb partir (to leave):

I leave → Eu part o
You (singular, inf) leave → Tu part es
He leave (also ela, você) → Ele part e
We leave → Nós part imos
You (plural) leave → Vós part is
They leave (also elas, vocês) → Eles part em

Ten regular verbs ending in -ir: Existir (to exist), partir (to leave), possuir (to have), desistir (to give up), insistir (to insist), resistir (to resist), instruir (to educate), obstruir (to obstruct), exprimir (to express), incluir (to include).

All right, have a nice study and remember to try with other verbs, so you can fix the endings in your mind. Portuguese conjugations are a little dificult for some students, but with hard work and dedication you'll get there, don't worry, nor jump phases, this way you'll get a better training of this wonderful language.
