Simple Present Tense For Beginner ESL Students

The simple present tense describes actions that happen every day.

* I brush my teeth. * I go to work. * I drink coffee.

The simple present tense also describes actions that occur on a regular basis.

* I go to church every Sunday. * We dance every Friday night. * She studies English every Monday and Wednesday evenings.

To form the simple present tense:

* Use the base form of the verb.

Singular

* First Person - I eat. * Second Person - You eat. * Third Person - He, She, It eats. *

Plural

* First Person - We eat. * Second Person - You eat. * Third Person - They eat.

* Note: Third person singular - add "s" to the end of the verb.
