The 44 Thai consonants

can be classified into 3 classes according to its tone.
1. Low-class consonants consist of 24 letters there are ค ฅ ฆ ง ช ซ ฌ ญ ฑ ฒ ณ ท ธ น พ ฟ ภ ม ย ร ล ว ฬ ฮ
2. Middle-class consonants consist of 9 letters there are ก จ ด ต ฎ ฏ บ ป อ
3. High-class consonants consist of 11 letters there are ข ฃ ฉ ฐ ถ ผ ฝ ศ ส ษ ห
Low –class, Middle-class and High-class can be called as Low-tone, Middle-tone, and High-tone respectively.

Thai vowels comprised of 33 symbols that create 33 sounds or more.
They are -ะ -า -ิ -ี -ึ -ื -ุ -ู เ-ะ เ- แ-ะ แ- โ-ะ โ- เ-าะ -อ เ-อะ เ-อ เ-ียะ เ-ีย เ-ือะ เ-ือ -ัวะ -ัว ฤ ฤา ฦ ฦา -ำ ไ- ใ- เ-อ -็

The "-" can be replaced by any consonant to form a Thai syllable e.g. กา (Ga) = craw , ขา (Kha) = leg.

Thai syllable is made of (at least) the consonant + vowel + tone mark ( _่ _้ _๊ _๋ ) for example
ไ + ก + _่ = ไก่ ่ (Gai tone 1) means Chicken.
