"There is" can be easily translated by "Il y a" in French.
The basic structure is :
Il y a + NOM + "location" + NOM
Example :
"There is a cat on the table."
"Il y a un chat sur la table.""There is a book in front of me."
"Il y a un livre devant moi."All you have to do is to learn how to say the little word that locates the object.
