possessive pronouns

Possessive pronouns:

My= (o) meu, (os) meus, (a) minha, (as) minhas

Your= (o)(s) teu(s), (a) tua(s), (o)(s) seu(s), (a) sua(s), de você

His= (o)(s) seu(s), (a)(s) sua(s), dele

her= seu(s), sua(s), dela

Our= (o)(a)(s) nosso(a)(s), da gente

Your (plural)= de vocês

Their= (os) seus, (as) suas, deles, delas

  • in portuguese the possessive pronoun agrees in person with the possessor, and in gender and number with the noun they accompany or substitute, but in English the possessive pronoun agrees in person with the thing possessed:

meu carro= my car/ minha casa= my house/ meus carros= my cars/ minhas casas= my houses .

o meu carro= my car/ a minha casa= my house/ os meus carros= my cars/

as minhas casas= my houses.

seu carro= your car, his car, her car

sua casa= your house, his house, her house

tua casa= your house/ teu carro= your car

a casa dele= his house/ a casa dela= her house/ as casas dele= his houses

as casas dela= her houses/ as casas deles= their houses/ a casa deles= their houses

  • the pronouns “de você, dele(a)(s), da gente, de vocês” come after the noun:

meu carro= my car

o carro dele= his car

a casa da gente= our house

nossa casa= our house

a casa de vocês= your house

essa casa é dele= this house is of him

minha casa= my house

tua casa= your house

essa casa é minha= this house is mine

essa casa é tua= this house is yours

essa é a minha casa= this is my house

a casa do meu pai= the house of my father, my father´s house

a casa da minha mãe= the house of my mother, my mother´s house
