Some rules on words and sounds
Vowels:
• All vowels are short.
• Vowels never immediately follow each other. When necessary, conjugation letters are inserted between wovels: y, n, s.
• All vowels obey the 1st and 2nd rule of vowel harmony.
• Most prepositions are suffixes (some can also be used as separate words).
Consonants:
• Original Turkish words do not contain "f", "h", "j".
• Words never start with a "ğ": there are no exceptions to this rule.
• Words do not start with "f", "l", "z" (except for words of foreign origin).
• Words do not start with "n", except the question words: ne/neden/niçin/niye/nasıl/nerede (what/why/why/why/how/where).
• Words do not end in: b, c, d, g, (there are a little number of exceptions). In words of foreign origin, these are often converted to p, ç, t, k (similar to in Dutch).
• A syllable does not start with two consonants, but can end with two consonants. Examples: tren (train, foreign origin), Türk.
Exceptions to all rules above:
• Words of foreign origin.
• Composite words (= two words combined together).
