J - TEST explained

J-TEST is a test for measuring practical efficiency in Japanese

The J.Test of Practical Japanese was introduced in 1991 as a test for conducting objective measurement of the Japanese language proficiency of non-Japanese. Based on the broad-based incorporation of the hearing test, this method effectively gauges practical proficiency in Japanese.

In gaining employment or entry to higher level schools in Japan, or for use of Japanese in the performance of practical work, advanced proficiency in the language is a must.By taking the J.Test of Practical Japanese, it is possible to comprehend your current level of proficiency, and then determine your nest objective. In pursuit of this goal, international students, Japanese language school students, company employees, staffers at embassies in Japan and numerous other people take the J.Test of Practical Japanese.

To comprehend your current level of Japanese proficiency, as well as to further enhance your grasp of the language, we strongly recommend that you sign up for the J.Test of Practical Japanese.

Test level A-D (Middle to advanced) Possible Total Score is 1000 points.     Special A Level (1000~930 points)      Advanced Interpreter Level: Able to interpret to/from Japanese on specialized topics.     A Level  (929~900 points)      Interpreter Level: Able to interpret to/from Japanese on matters of a general nature.     Pre-A Level  (899~850 points)      Advanced Level: Able to interpret to/from Japanese on basic topics.     B Level  (849~800 points)      Pre-advanced Level:Able to conduct business in Japan.     Pre-B Level  (799~700 points)      High intermediate Level:Able to undertake a business trip to Japan.     C Level  (699~600 points)      Intermediate Level: Able to complete simple tasks on a business trip to Japan.     D Level  (599~500 points)      Pre-intermediate Level: Sufficient for basic communication.     None  (499~0 points)      Insufficient to attain level D.

Test level E-F (Beginners) Possible Total score is 500 points.     E Level  (500~350 points)      Equivalent to having completed an elementary course in Japanese.     F Level  (349~250 points)      Equivalent to having completed the first half of an elementary course in Japanese.     None  (249~0 points)      Insufficient to attain level F.

 Essential Points of the J.Test

1 Credentials for Taking the Test.   Persons who do not speak Japanese as their native tongue.

2 Test Dates   A-D Level : Six time per year in January, March, May, July, September and November E-F Level : Twice per year in January and July

3 Fee   A-D level \3,600   E-F level \3,600

4 Public Testing Sites   Domestic・・・Six times per year (January, March, May, July, September and November): Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, Fukuoka

Three time per year (January, July, November) Sapporo, Iwate, Akita, Sendai, Gunma, Nagano, Kofu, Nigata, Shizuoka, Mie, Toyama, Ishikawa, Kyoto, Okayama, Hiroshima, Takamatsu, Ehime, Kitakyushu, Oita, Kumamoto, Okinawa

  Abroad・・・・・China (Shanghai, Zhejiangsheng,Jilinsheng etc.)           

5 How to Apply   Fill out the necessary items on the "Personal Application Form,"   enclose two photos and copy of personal identification,   and forward to J.Test Office.   Transfer the test fee through the post office.

"Personal Application Forms" may be obtained from the school appearing on this poster, or from the J.Test Office (03)3633-2212.

 Group Test( J.TEST-IP) Applications

When a set number of individuals at the same school, company, etc.wish to take this test, that location may be utilized as a group test site. To find out more, contact the school, instructors in charge of Japanese language education, personnel directors at your place of employment or others.
