Most Common errors on Spanish Learners

These are some words that usually confuse Spanish learners:

él with written accent is a personal pronoun = he
Ex: él es alto (He is tall)
el without written accent is a masculine article = the
Ex: el gato es negro. (the cat is black.)



with written accent is a personal pronoun = you
Ex: tú eres alto. (you are tall)
tu without written accent is a possessive = your (informal form).
Ex: Tu gato es negro. (your cat is black)

your, formal form is su
Ex: Su gato es negro. (Your cat is black)



But su means also his or her
Ex: su gato es negro. (his cat is black)
Ex: éste es su gato (this is her cat)



ésta with written accent on é is a demonstrative pronoun = this
Ex: ésta es tu casa. (this is your house)
está with written accent on á is the third person of simple present from verb estar (be) = he/she/ it is
Ex: él está en la casa. (he is at the house)



éstas with written accent at e is a plural demonstrartive pronoun = these
Ex: éstas son casas grandes (these are big houses) estás without written accent at a is the second person of simple present from verb estar (be)
Ex: tú estás en la casa (you are at the house)

    Appreciate your listed comment.  I have to agree with Annie though.  Estas (with the accent over the 'a') is what you meant to write instead of estas without the accent over the 'a'.
