Questions Relating to Time:

  • Question: Ima nan ji desu ka? - (What is the time right now?)

  • Answer: desu. - (It is ___ )

  • You might recognize "Nan" from the earlier lesson "Nansai desu ka". "Nani" means "what", and is frequently shortened to just "nan" in the same way English shortens "What is" to "What`s". "Ima" means "now" or "right now" and is often used when a person wants to know what the current time is.
