My attitude towards natural disasters OR My attitude towards the nature of disasters
As far as I am concerned, there are two kinds of natural disasters. One cannot be controlled, such as the
volcanic eruptions and earthquakes in Wenchuang and Yushu in recent years. Another can be controlled or reduced through our people’s
efforts,
like those seen during the
Dongting Lake rodents and the red tide.
We all know that such disasters bring losses in
many aspects. But we cannot try to transform them into a better condition blindly
. Otherwise we
receive almost nothing
and cannot make things better.
First,
for disasters we cannot prevent, we should set up rigorous systems of monitoring, dispatching, and rescuing. Once disasters
happen, all the related departments should take actions in order to
reduce losses. We are supposed to carry our science and technology to a
new and higher level. We still remember that in 2008, when the miserable earthquake
struck Wenchuang, it was
only because of our
slow reaction and
lack of a precise apparatus that we could not save people from the ruins
immediately. This event
taught us a fatal lesson.
Secondly,
for disasters that we can control, we need to pay attention to protecting the environment before it gets worse. Just like the old proverb suggests, prevention is the best cure. Releasing lots of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere causes global warming. Then the global warming contributes to
the formation of typhoons, the thaw of the icebergs in Poles, and the rapid
spread of diseases.
Many people do not believe in the movie 2012 or related theories about the end of the world. And yes, the events seen in 2012 are very exaggerated and imagination. But the deterioration of our environment is a reality. People should know that “we do not
inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.”
(Try expanding on this quote. A general rule in writing an essay is never starting or leaving a paragraph with a quote. Maybe try ending it with something like, We have a responsibility to protect our environment for future generations.)
The role people play
is always important
to success. We are not the rulers of the world, but we can change the world in a positive way.
Let's get a move on to dealing with
these disasters and
help make a better world!
(Make sure that each paragraph has a strong thesis.)
