Hi Vincent, Hardly anybody in Ireland really speaks Irish, despite the fact that it is taught as a compulsory subject right up until the end of secondary school! Its generally considered to be a bit pointless, so most people don't really make much effort at it (I certainly didn't!). So it shouldn't take too long for you to learn more Irish than most Irish people know ;) Then you should visit Ireland and impress/embarrass the locals by speaking to them "as gaeilge" (they almost certainly won't understand you though!)
