"to" meaning "the"

In the sentences, "Ewa urządza mieśkanie. Ciągle coś przestawa, presuwa, to szafę, to stół--cały dzień się krząta." why is it not tą szafę? When "to" is used as the article "the" does it not need to reflect the gender of the noun it precedes?

First of all in Polish there are no articles before nouns. In the example sentences 'to' could be translate something like 'once the wardrobe, then the table'.
Gender of the noun is pointed out by demonstrative pronouns - e.g. 'tę szafę', 'ten stół'.
    Regards :)

'could be translated' of course, I've eaten a letter :)

Sorry, one more thing: Ewa urządza mieSZkanie

    przestawia (i was missing)
    pRZesuwa
simply this "to" refers to the verbs not to szafa. It may be a bit too complicated for first 2 weeks of learning.
you could say "to przestawia tę szafę" (by the way try not to say "tą" and never write "tą" although you may hear it quite often, "tę" is proper)
