    Gin (กิน) could be both of " eat" and" drink", but usually this word is more suitable for "eat". Deaum
    (ดื่ม) means only drink. In this case, you can use both. Hope it will help you :)

    priviat !

    gin= eat *
    derm= drink

    well, basically we, thai are get used to speak "gin", even though it doesn't mean any like "drink" at all.
    and we know it is not correct but, in daily life, we use it.

    but, in formal and academic writing must use "derm naam" is propper one also concider as formal language.

    help it helps!

    Either one works fine. Most Thais will use กิน. Do not think of it as "incorrect" though because it has widespread usage. You can also use กิน with ยา but that doesn't translate to 'eat' or 'drink'. :)
