Yes, you should use 'saya' when speaking to them. 'Aku' is kinda an informal language. Generally we'll use 'Aku' when speaking to our close friends. :)
' Saya' is bahasa baku..means standard language...so it is polite...( it's same with Bahasa Indonesia ) ..so you can use ' saya ' for that...

yes, saya is more polite than aku, saya is more formal, but if aku, sometimes it is used when we talk in informal situation
