Shan shui refers to a style of Chinese painting that involves or depicts scenery or natural landscapes, which does not necessarily has something to do with Chinese classic stories. one of the conceivable reasons why Shan shui appeared in Chinese classic stories might be that our ancestors exposed to very limited art forms, which are music, chess, calligraphy and painting. Painting was also seen as an art form exclusively for the educated upper classes.
