What "views" of your culture would you like others to see?
I have a group of students who are informally learning Portuguese. To whet their appetites, I would like to show excerpts of films (or entire films, in some cases) which show different aspects of life in Brazil.
Stereotypically, people think of favelas and Carnaval when they think of Brazil, but there is so much more! Here are some of the films I have so far:
O Homem Que Copiava
O Caminho das Nuvens
Central do Brasil
Children of the Amazon (about Native American children)
What other films or documentaries would you include, and why? Thanks in advance (you may post your answer in Portuguese, if desired). :)

Bom, eu gostaria de citar o filme "O auto da compadecida," que é baseado em obra do escritor brasileiro Ariano Suassuna. É uma comédia. Há muitos aspectos que o citado trabalho instiga, tornando possível mobilizar e fazer muitas pessoas do meu país assisti-lo várias vezes: o humor, o improviso, o jogo de cintura para que uma pessoa se livre de dificuldades, enfim.
Eu penso que a criatividade do povo brasileiro é um dos aspectos que eu abordaria com muito entusiasmo: o inusitado faz vibrar a nossa alma latina! (É muito bom gragalhar com o mencionado filme).

If they are teenagers, I nominate "Os famosos e os duendes da morte" and "Desenrola".
These films talk about the daily lives of teenagers and the difficulties they have in life.

How about O Menino Maluquinho? It's good for younger students but I don't think it's boring for an older audience. It's a slice of life about a very imaginative boy, it's also a Brazilian classic for children. You can find both animated cartoons, a series and movies.
Meu Tio Matou Um Cara, you can say it's a slice of life-ish about three teenagers, one whose uncle was accused of killing a guy so he and his friends try to prove his innocence. It's interesting to see a portrait of teenagers in Brazil, the life of a black man in jail, etc.
