You are hungry, a more intense feeling that may have been there longer than getting hungry.

    Getting - just now noticing.

    I'm hungry = I am hungry now
    I am getting hungry = I am
Not hungry but I will be soon

Getting is like saying becoming c:

I'm hungry, and I'm getting hungry mean the same thing.
At first the person might say "I'm getting hungry".
If you don't take him some place to eat, he will say even louder, "I'M HUNGRY"!!
"Let's get something to eat, please!"

Literally, I'm hungry means "I am hungry right now." and I'm getting hungry means " I will soon be hungry"

Practically, it is all about how nice a person wants to be.
I'm hungry - get me food now or you will regret it!
I'm getting hungry - the person is hungry but are trying to let you fell that you have time to think and respond to there request for food.
