Word ending in Russian it's one of the most complicated topic, I think.
Right in this sentence:
дети бегают = kids run (every time, sometimes)
дети бегут = kids are running (right now)
женщины бегают = women run (every time, sometimes)
женщины бегут = women are running (right now)

Бегают - (they) run (without any goal to reach somewhere)
Бегут - (they) run (to somewhere, with an intention to get somewhere)

For comparison:
Они бегают по утрам - They run (go jogging) mornings. (to nowhere, just for health)
Они бегут по утрам на работу - They run (hurry) mornings to the work.
