what are these sentences mean?

"He was too simple to wonder when he had attained humility. But he knew he had attained it and he knew it was not disgraceful and it carried no loss of true pride."
Does this mean he had humility and knew it isnt disgraceful but when ever he experience such feeling he wondered because of his simplicity?

    When someone is "too simple to do sth.", it means that he/she is simple to such an extent that his/her simplicity prevents him/her from doing that.
    In this case, "he was not able, because of his simplicity, to wonder when he had attained humility", "but (at least) he knew he was humble and that it was not bad".
