    I usually hear and use "on par with" (But "on a par with" has the same meaning.)

    It basically means "equal to"

    Or "at the same level as someone or something."

    Or "equal in importance or quality to."

    So:
    The salary I get for this job is on par with that salary of other, similar jobs.

    John's performance at work is on par with the expectations for his job.

    The baseball team from Jamaica was not on par with teams from other countries.

    My level of teaching is on par with anybody else's.
