Is a mistake, use "There's" instead "There is"?

In other site (Lang-8) I wrote a text using There's, and someone told me that is a mistake, I can't use There's, I should always use There is! is that true?

Additional Details:

I was thinking in "There's so much that time cannot erase" in My Immortal (Evanescence) xD I don't know the My heart will go on's lyric xD that's good know that is really acceptable ^^

"There is" is more formal, but both are completely acceptable and "there's" is probably used more in conversation. They might have said it was a mistake if you were trying to say "theirs" meaning something belongs to someone. If not, they were wrong.

There = Location (there is a cat, there's a cat)
Their = possession (the cat is theirs)

The only problem with using "there's" in place of "there is" if you are writing a proper text. Specifically, if you're giving a personal opinion in a casual context, then the contractions are fine. If it's an essay for an English exam, then I'd advise writing everything out fully.

Using contractions give a casual spoken tone to the text, but this may not always be appropriate. You should know when to use either one.
