I bet you have watched " Dar Bareye Eli درباره الی" a movie which makes you feel the bitterness of the real life when disasters will happen. If you remember one of the characters used to say " یک پایان تلخ بهترست از تلخی بی پایان" which is the translation of your phrase here. ;) I will change this sentence into this one " To have a painful ending is better than to live a long life with pain" or " A painful ending is better than to live with pain." :)
