The mudaaf/mudaah ilayhi construction is "something of something " or "someone's something "

    for example :

    - كتاب الطالب .. it means " the student's book "
كتاب is mudaf and الطالب is mudaf ilaihi

    - صديق محمد .. it means " Muhammad's friend "

صديق is mudaf and محمد is mudaf ilaihi

    - رب العالمين .. it means " Lord of the Worlds " or " worlds's Lord "

رب is mudaf and العالمين is mudaf ilaihi

hope this has helped you even a little bit :)

mudaf and a mudaf ilaihi used when you want to show that there is something belongs to someone or another thing.
    Example here:
    ذيل الكلب = dog's tail
the dog is mudaf.. tail is mudaf ilaihi coz it's belongs to the dog (added to)
