Religious language is often obscure and contradictory, so I wouldn't say "No, never", but I don't think this is quite right. Visitation means an appearance in person so you might say "The god made a visitation to his followers", perhaps.
The word you are probably looking for is "vision". "God gave me a vision" might mean the god made something appear before your eyes to inspire you to do something.
