"ف" in Arabic could be used in many different meanings
1-ranking"الترتيب"
Mohamed got in then Ahmed did=دخل محمد فاحمد
2-causality "السببية"
study hard so that you would succeed=ذاكر بجد فتنجح
3- redundant"زائدة"
every truthful man is respected= كل صادق فهو محترم
وَثيابك فطهر
you can DELETE IT AND THE MEANING will not be affected
4-penality "الجزاء"
" وان تغفر لهم فانك انت العزيز الحكيم"
5- resumption"استئناف"
إنما إلهكم إله واحد فهل أنتم مسلمون
in the sentence you mentioned it is redundant as you may remove it and the meaning would be ok

it could also mean:
I was straying, and/then I bumped into my college
here it is not just an result of an action it's more like while I was straying I bumped into my college. but the original meaning like said above is " so " or " therefor"

فـ in the sentence you wrote is used more like a conjugation or to link sentences, but it doesn't have any usage in this sentence I think, its just like in english to get someones attention you just say "so I did that and that"
