What is the difference between "меня" and "мой" ?

We say "Меня зовут Мария." but "Мой папа гимнаст.".
What is the difference between these 2 words?
Do both of them mean "my" ?

    Меня зовут Мария. - Word for word it means "[They] call me Maria".
    So, you can say, that "меня" = "me". It is true for the phrases like "You make me cry" (Ты заставляешь меня плакать) or "You saw me yesterday" (ты видел меня вчера).
    And really, "мой" = "my", almost always.

    "меня" means "me"; "мой" means "my", and it referes to something that is singular and belongs to the male gender.
