About pronunciation. "Demais" - in the end "s" or "sh"?

At my teach-yourself book written, that we must pronunce "demais" in that word like "demaish".
But when I'm listening a braslian song - I hearing there "demais" like "s".
Qual e o correto? how to correctly?

    Both are correct, it depends on the accent you're studying. In Portuguese pt, generally the "s" at the end of the words is read like "sh", whilst the Portuguese br for this word sounds more like "s" with a little stress on the "i".

Se você falar com Cariocas, aí sim, o "s" vai ter som de "sh", nós que somos do interior de São Paulo, não arrastamos o "s", igual os cariocas, nosso "s" não soa como "sh"..Por isso é importante você conversar com as pessoas, somente assim você vai perceber como nosso português é adaptado à cada região, estado, do Brasil.Dica: Não sei qual é o cantor que você estava ouvindo, mas se você ouvir Rita lee, vai ouvir como os paulistas falam, se ouvir milton Nascimento, vai perceber o sotaque de Minas Gerais, e por aí vai.

    It sounds mostly as "Z" than "S" as default, but can come as "SH" is a case of regional accent.

    It's more evident when the following words starting with vowel sounds, as the sounds is very distinguishable as "Z".

    Saying "demais" is fine, you don't have to say "demaiz" unless trying to sound as a native, but "demaish" always sounds forced.

    Curiosity: Brazilians learning english will say "yez" and such, mostly noticeable against vowels as in "yez I do", "yez it iz".
