LORO indica persone diverse da chi parla e da chi ascolta!
E` esattamente come /they/.
Non esiste la forma gentile /loro/ se non in forme arcaiche fra servitore e padrone;

Esempio:
-- lor signori desiderano il caffe` o il the` ?

(per fortuna queste forme sono andate in soffitta! -- in the garret-- )

Obviously, if you want to ask US about THEM, then your expression is correct!

By the way, I hope it is ok for you if I use the /tu/ form, this is how I usually talk with my students.

Annotation:
the /che/ particle is never implicit in Italian language;

I {hope, see, think, ...} you + /secondary sentence/ ...
is always like:
{Spero, mi accorgo - vedo, penso, ...} CHE + /frase secondaria/ ...
