"I studied Japanese during the Christmas holidays" in Japanese

I'm trying to piece together the sentence "I studied Japanese during the Christmas holidays:"

I don't know what word I should use for the Christmas holidays and I'm in general unsure about the sentence but this is what I have come up with.
冬休みの間に、日本語を勉強し。
Is this correct?

Additional Details:

Do I need to add た to the end?

    冬休み is correct.
25th December, Xmas, is not a national holiday in Japan, by the way.

And when you say "I studied Japanese during the Christmas holidays." in Japanese,
    冬休みの間に、日本語を勉強した。

    Yes, it needs た.
And if you want to say more polite,

    冬休みの間に、日本語を勉強しました。
