    Hi there,

    They mean the same, なぜ is a little more formal.

    Ex; Why don't you come here yesterday? どうして/ なぜ あなたは昨日ここに来なかったのですか? Both are correct.
    In our daily conversation, we usually say どうして. We can use it to the persons who are older than us.
    Between close people, どうして(あなたは)昨日ここに来なかったの?
