If I recognize the person, I greet him, like 'ciao Francesco', or 'Buongiorno ABC'.
Otherwise I can say 'dice a me?'
From a distance, like when you are hiking in the wilderness, I say:
'dimmi' (say to me), or 'che c'e` ?' (what is it), or even a
simple 'si`' (like siii) with the meaning 'si`, ti sto ascoltando'.
Several different answers are possible, the range depends on the context, the distance, whether you recognize the person or not, how dear is the speaker to you, and so on.
