How to understand this sentence in the poem/song "коробейники"

"Парень с де́вицей целуется,
Просит цены набавлять."
A direct translation may be like "The lad is kissing his lass, asking her to raise the price" but it's hard for me to understand why the peddler would kiss his customer (the lady) if he want to raise the price? :(

Anyway, this song is one proof why Russia is the greatest nation in this universe, you have everything-- my opinion :)

Once upon a time in Russia... ))) Really, your questions are always very funny!
Well, before in the villages and countryside were walking young handsome guys who sold various ornaments. Young girls loved to dress up and don't deny themself the pleasure to flirt with handsome sellers. Sometimes it comes up to kisses :)
Russian folklore in general is very unusual for a foreign hearing, some words you can't translate correctly even with Google :)
