A2. parlando fra loro ( - si: reciprocamente, fra loro) capirono di ...
B1. nel periodo di vacanze erano felici di vedersi ogni giorno, in seguito, scrivendosi hanno capito di avere molto poco in comune.
B2. nel periodo di vacanze erano felici di vedersi ogni giorno, in seguito, nello scriversi (scrivere lettere reciprocamente: one to the other and viceversa) ...

parlando-si : speaking + /si/;
here /si/ means a reciprocating action (usually between two person);
suppose there are person A and person B; in this case
/parlandosi/ means the following (both 1 and 2):
1) A sta parlando con B
2) B sta parlando con A
Which has actually the same meaning of either of (1) or (2), but the symmetry of the action is emphasized.
Another example:
hanno passato la notte nel bosco e cosi` hanno dormito vicini,
scaldandosi a vicenda
(keeping each other's body warm)
1) A scalda B (A keeps B warm)
2) B scalda A (B keeps A warm)
In these contexts -si (as a suffix) means that the action 'exchanged'.
Maybe somebody else could add some more examples ...
