No , It is not only with يـ letter.
this is called /tanween/ .which means giving the last sound(or lets say letter) an aditional morpheme with /ن/ sound to show its role in the sentence
usualy ..the subject (doer) takes the ـــٌ sound which is the tiney vowel (ُ ) + /ن/ sound.
and if the word was the reciever of the action (object) it will take the ـــــَ + ن
sound.
You as beginner ,it is recommanded to forget about it at this stage.
bcoz it is related to alfus.haa and specially the one used by Quran , and poetry.
I can make it clearer with one more step.
just concentarte.
in English we have nouns defined by "the" and others which are not defined usually proceeded with 'a' or 'an'
In arabic , the word that is not enriched (in Arabic we say sweeetened) with the article definetion الـــ
must have ن sound attached to its last letter to show that it is not defined.
========
look at the example and everything will be easy
قراتُ الكتاب
here i cannot say الكتابن
there is no such a word in arabic, الـــ and tanween never coexist !
قرأتُ كتابــــ ـــــاً
qara'to kitaban
it is ـاً not ـــٌ becuase the book is the reciever of the action
this /nuning/ showa that the word is undefined, I read /a/ book
/a/= ــاً
هذا القلم الذي اشتريته لك
this is the pen i bought for you.
here it is imposible to say
القلمٌ
alqalamun !!!
there is no such a word in arabic, الـــ and tanween never coexist !
but if I say
هذا قلمٌ جديد
hatha qalmun jadeed= this is /a/ new pen
this is has the musical tone that makes Arabic speical , you often hear /n/ sound in arabic for this reason
here the pen is the predicate, this doer of the sentence
but if it was in the position of object=recive an action
اعطني قلماً
give me a pen
