What is the meaning of "diye mi?" in 'cunku ben "abi" dedim diye mi?'
in 'cunku ben "abi" dedim diye mi?'
I'm thinking it means "is it because", but that negates the "cunku" so yeah, I'm stumped. any help appreciated :)

Yes, you are correct. It means 'Is it because I call you brother?' ''Çünkü'' ve ''diye mi'' sound me odd in the same sentence. Use one of them.
Örnek: ''Seninle gelemem çünkü işim var diye.'' sounds odd. You should use either 'çünkü'' or ''diye''.

'is it because i said "brother"' . yes, you're right.. you can omit "cunku" or not, it's your choice.
