Resolved questions
why is it "las mujeres sí van" rather than "las mujeres van"?

I don't understand the purpose "sí" serves in this sentence

Taigashuu´s answer it´s correct but maby you have read or heard "las mujeres sí van". In this particular case we use "sí" to reinforce what we want to say, it´s like the English "do"

Las mujeres sí van = Women do go

It's ''Las mujeres se van'' and it means that they're leaving.
Las mujeres van would mean ''The women are going''
So you could say Las mujeres van al cine juntos. = The women are going to the movies together.
Las mujeres van a verla. = The women are going to see her.
Las mujeres van a comer mas tarde. = The women are going to eat later.

Edit:I'm quite new to spanish also but I understand the ''se'' part like this:
As se means themselves in the sentence above,''se van'' is like they're ''removing themselves'' from somewhere.

We have the "sí" and the "si".
The "sí" means "yes" and in your sentences means the women yes they go (emphasis).
We have as well the "si" (without accent) which means "if" e.g.: Si llueve no iré a la fiesta =If it rains I won't go to the party
