Are these two statements correct and more-or-less saying the right thing?

dann gehen wir zusammen in die Stadt
wir gehen dann zusammen in die Stadt

Would they be used any differently, or are they completely interchangeable?

First of all to make things clear they're both 100% correct and used frequently. They would be used differently however.Ill try to break it down a little bit.
1.)....dann gehen wir in die Stadt can be used
    a) If you have a '' in that case'' situation.
Example: Ich gehe alleine wenn es dir schlecht geht.--
Mir geht es aber wieder gut.--
Ach so! Dann gehen wir zusammen in die Stadt.
    b) If your planning to do things in a temporal order.
Example:Wir frühstücken erst noch etwas, dann duschen wir uns, ziehen uns um und dann gehen wir in die Stadt.

    Now
2.) ''Wir gehen dann zusammen in die Stadt'' ...isn't used in the scenarios above.
It could be used this way:
    a)When describing what you're doing to a 3rd person
    Example:Was machst du heute?
Ich treff mich später mit einer Freundin und wir gehen dann zusammen in die Stadt.

This does not cover all possible scenarios however.I would not advise you to try to figure this one out by grammatical rules. You need the feel when to use which phrase.Best thing is spend time in a
german speaking country or talk to a native speaker.

As I understand it the Germans have a standard word order, as explained in various grammar books in different ways. Yes, you can deviate from the standad word order, but when you do so you are emphasizing the parts of the sentence that deviate. I think there are certain things that have to be observed, though. Your first sentence doesnt look right to me, even though it would probably be understandable. I dont think you can place the subject of the sentence beyond the 1st or 2nd position unless it is in a subordinate clause.
