what does "a sensibility rooted in function" mean? is "sensibility"here "the ability to experience and undersand deep feelings, esp.in art and literature"?

context:
【“Italian design can be really disparate, but with Scandinavian design there’s a shared sensibility,” said Mr. Wright, 49, whose company holds two sales a year devoted exclusively to vintage Scandinavian design.

It’s a sensibility rooted in function, he said, but one that also manages to be playful: “They have long winters, and a little hit of humor or color can be pretty welcome.”

The latest generation of designers to follow in the footsteps of masters like Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl and Josef Frank, he said, seems to share a similar approach. On a recent visit to New York, Mr. Wright picked out a few good examples.】

Yes, I believe you are correct. Sensibility in your example refers to aesthetic sensibility, i.e., the ability to respond to and appreciate art. "A sensibility rooted in function" refers to the practical use of artistic design. Both Danish and Italian furniture have their asthetic qualities, but in each the artistic design is subordinate to its use as furniture. In other words, no matter how beautiful a Danish or Italian chair may be, it is made chiefly so that people can sit in it.

That probably means, that sensibility IS the main function of this design, that this design was made FOR being sensible
