j-q-x question for native Chinese speakers
j-q-x [t͡ɕ, t͡ɕʰ, ɕ] may be pronounced c'-c'(asp.)-s' [t͡sj, t͡sʰj, sj], which is characteristic of the speech of young women, and also of some men. This is considered rather effeminate and may also be substandard.

I can't see why those people who cannot articulate j-q-x should be considered effeminate. As it appears to me, most Chinese can distinguish the three consonants quite well. Instead, n-l is a rather big pronunciational problem for people from the south, and it's because in some local dialects n and l have the same pronunciation. I think it's cool to have accent. Sometimes we imitate the accent of different districts to make fun of one another. Surely these dialects are "substandard" mandarin, but if you can speak or understand some Chinese dialects, it will make your journey or your life in china more joyous. :D
