shout & yell

They are synonyms, but yell is a little more aggressive and less formal in my own opinion.

A shout is more likely to convey some message of words, whereas a yell might be only a shriek or exclamation. A shout is more likely to express happiness or joy. Otherwise, the words have little difference.
