The BHARATA name was used for a 'group of people' who lived in north-western part of the then India and who are mentioned in Rigveda.
Around 2500 years ago, the Greeks and the Iranians, called the people living on the bank of river Sindhu( now Indus) as the HINDOS or the INDOS and the land to the wast of the river was called as India. Both Hindustan and India later derived from these words.
The king Bharata and the name Bharata are not interrelated, and there are no many theories on our country name.
Now INDIA and BHARAT official name of country. Not Hindustan.
Present Social meaning:
India= Urban India, which is influenced by western culture.
Bharat= Rural India, free from western influence.
Example: Rapes are in India not in Bharat.
