The second one doesn't make sense.^^'
저는 거기 안 가봤어요. = I have never been there.
"아/어/여/해 보다" means "to try something", but here "가보다" is one word.
As for "I tried not to go there", it means "저는 거기 안 가려고 했어요"
(to try to do something = ....하려고 애쓰다/노력하다)
(to try something = 한번.... (시험삼아) 해 보다)
