    It means that the forces of nature, in someone's conception, can be moved by your thoughts, wishes, hopes, prayers, and so forth.

    Thus, to "get Mother Nature on your SIDE" is to be able to persuade Mother Nature to do something for you, in the presumption that Nature is rather like a Person, and a nice person who will help you.

    For example, if I have a Baseball Game in few days, I may pray (or hope) that
    "Mother Nature" will not let it rain on my game. I will want a clear, warm, sunny day.
