Any Difference in this example? (If/whether)

I am currently studying for my CPE exam and my software marks wrong if I use "whether" instead of "if" in following case. But I insist that you can use whether as well, can't you? What do native speakers say?

I was wondering if you could give me a hand filling in this application form.
I was wondering whether you could give me a hand filling in this application form.

Additional Details:

Original sentence was this one:

Do you think you could help me to fill in this application form?

I had to say the same thing in using "wondering"

Native speakers, including me, will sometimes use "whether" in place of "if" in that case, but technically, you can't.

"Whether" can be used when you have possible alternatives. Otherwise, you use "if".

In your sentence, it seems like there are two options: you get help or you don't. But it's really a conditional, so you use "if".

I don't know whether it will rain on Friday or not.

There are two possibilities there, so you use "if" or "whether".

I hope I got that right! Good question.

Both are correct in this context, as it's an indirect question.

As Mojave pointed out, "whether" is used for several possible alternatives. When you don't give an alternative with "whether", we understand that "...or not" is implied.
